IES Day 2024 Celebrations & "TechFusion: Bridging Skills & Culture for Tomorrow"
On 30th November 2024, we are hosting a hands-on Pre-University STEM event for students aged 5 to 12, focused on teaching Microsoft Office skills. Students will participate in interactive sessions on MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, learning to create documents, organize data, and design presentations. Volunteers will guide them, introducing essential digital tools for academic growth.
The event also celebrates IES Day with a cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments. Sponsored by IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, it offers volunteers a chance to mentor young students and engage with the community.
Event Objectives:
- Teach Basic Computer Skills: Introduce students to MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Hands-on Learning: Engage students in practical activities.
- Peer Mentorship: Provide mentorship opportunities for undergraduate volunteers.
- Spark Interest in Technology: Inspire excitement about using technology.
- Build Confidence: Empower students to use technology independently.
- Encourage Teamwork: Foster collaboration between students and mentors.
Event Overview:
- Training Session: A 30-minute introduction, followed by a 1.5-hour hands-on workshop where students will create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Volunteer Engagement: Undergraduate volunteers will mentor small groups, facilitating learning and contributing to the IES Day celebration.
- IES Day Celebration: Cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments, with stationery kits for students.

- Stationery Kits: Distributed to students after the event.
- Volunteer Assignments: Small groups of 3-4 students per volunteer.

The Microsoft Office training event for school students was a big success. The students learned important computer skills by working with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a fun and interactive way. With the help of undergraduate volunteers, the students were able to practice what they learned, building their confidence in using technology.
The event was not only educational but also enjoyable, with hands-on activities and a celebration of IES Day. By including the cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments, we were able to raise awareness about IES Day and its significance among both students and volunteers. The students received stationery kits as a reward, which motivated them to keep learning. Overall, the event helped students get excited about technology, celebrate IES Day, and gain useful skills that will help them in the future.
