Title: Harnessing hydrogen for Alberta's gas grid.

Presenter: Greg Caldwell

Summary:  ATCO is working in alignment with Alberta's Hydrogen Roadmap and the province's Emissions Reduction and Energy Development Plan to integrate hydrogen into the heating network.  ATCO is poised to build the initial infrastructure necessary to enable the creation of a clean hydrogen economy in the province, unlocking new opportunities for growth while addressing the pressing issue of emissions reduction. This presentation will explore the status of the hydrogen initiative, its impact on heating customers across Alberta, and the transformative economic opportunities for the region.

Bio: Greg Caldwell serves as Director of Policy & Advocacy at ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd., where he utilizes his expertise in energy systems and finance to drive sustainable, secure, and cost-effective energy solutions that are vital to both Canada’s economic stability and national security.

He supports strategic initiatives in low-emission technologies, such as hydrogen and renewable gas, while acknowledging the critical role of conventional energy infrastructure in sustaining the unprecedented standard of living enabled by abundant, reliable, and affordable energy. His approach emphasizes balancing forward-thinking innovation with the practical reality that robust energy systems are foundational to national security, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and agriculture.

As Chair of the Canadian Gas Association’s Innovation & New Markets Committee, Caldwell further extends his leadership through advisory board roles at the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, NAIT, and the University of Alberta.
