The IEEE-KC PES/IAS Joint Chapter is excited to announce its Technical Seminar Series for Spring 2025!
This year we will again have an in-person hybrid format, although we will also offer a virtual option. Please see below for location details.
Topics for this year are:
- April 1 (Tuesday) - Transmission System Power Flow Control
- April 8 (Tuesday) - PES/IAS Industry Topics (V2G and Transformer Bushing Design)
- April 22 (Tuesday) - Arc Flash Safety
- April 29 (Tuesday) - Preparing T&D for IBRs and Renewables
Agenda:
Doors to the in-person event open at 5:00pm. Dinner will be served at approximately 5:30pm.
The evening's seminar will include two presentations and will begin promptly at 6:00pm CDT. Each presentation will include 1 break, as well as a short quiz and survey. Completion of the quiz will be required to receive a PDH certificate.

Biography:
With over 8 years of experience in the utility and energy sector, Matthew is a subject matter expert on the program design of V2X pilots, with experience working on behind-the-meter flexible load resources and emergent technology development to enhance grid stability. Matthew helps clients optimize energy costs and meet sustainability goals through smart charging and energy storage solutions, advancing innovative bidirectional charging technologies that empower EVs to contribute to site and grid operations.
Prior to joining The Mobility House, Matthew was a technical program manager at Portland General Electric leading various innovative studies within the Smart Grid Test Bed to leverage customer-owned resources for flexible load and utility distribution system benefit.
Christopher Whitten of Hitachi Energy
Substation Transformer Bushing Design
Biography:
Mr. Whitten has been with Hitachi Energy / ABB Power Grids at the Alamo, TN facility since August of 2010. His roles include Senior Product Specialist, Transformer Components Technical Specialist, and International Segment Account Manager. He holds both a Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Ag Engineering (Power and Machinery) from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
