Biography:

Daswin De Silva is Full Professor of AI and Deputy Director of the Centre for Data Analytics and Cognition (CDAC) at La Trobe University, Australia. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Lulea University of Technology, Sweden. His expertise is in AI; algorithms, systems, applications, ethics. He received national recognition for teaching excellence in AI in 2021, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching in 2019 and Research Excellence in 2018. Daswin’s PhD in AI from Monash in 2011 focused on the algorithmic development of incremental learning without forgetting and bias. He has co-authored 150+ research articles, received AU$ 14+ million industry and government funding for AI research, supervised 15 PhDs to completion, and currently supervises 10 PhDs at La Trobe. In the IEEE, Daswin is Chair of the Technical Committee on Responsible AI, Governing Board Member of the IEEE Blockchain and the IEEE AI Coalition. Daswin is an editor of four journals, an invited keynote speaker, and consulted by the ABC News, Channel 7 News, The Australian, Forbes, Cosmos, Times Higher Education and The Conversation for his AI expertise.
