This lecture will focus on the development and patenting process of an innovative electrical protection device designed to detect and mitigate the risks associated with the disconnection of the neutral conductor in low-voltage power distribution systems. Such failures can lead to severe overvoltage in connected equipment, posing significant safety hazards and economic losses.

The session will begin with an overview of the motivation and real-world needs that led to the creation of this device, including common scenarios in residential and industrial installations where such failures occur. The technical concept and operation of the device will be presented in detail, including its architecture, functioning principles, and expected performance under different fault conditions.

A dedicated segment will cover the patenting procedure, guiding attendees through essential steps such as prior art research, patent documentation, filing strategy, and understanding both initial and maintenance costs. Emphasis will be placed on the inventor’s journey, offering insights into the challenges faced and lessons learned during the process.

Finally, the lecture will address the critical question of “what comes next”—exploring potential paths for further development, prototyping, industrial application, collaboration opportunities, and commercialization strategies.

This lecture is especially relevant for students, engineers, and researchers in the field of electrical engineering who are interested in innovation, intellectual property, and translating technical ideas into real-world impact.
