Extending RPA into Supply Chain and Logistics
The session on “Extending RPA into Supply Chain and Logistics”, organized by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, will be held on the 17th of May 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM IST, via Zoom. As a continuation of the Robotics in Industry 4.0: Automation and Smart Manufacturing Workshop Series, this session will explore how Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is revolutionizing supply chain and logistics operations through intelligent automation.
The session will be delivered by Prof. Amila Thibbotuwawa, a Professor at the Department of Transport and Logistics Management, University of Moratuwa, with expertise in supply chain optimization, logistics, and sustainable transport systems.
This session will focus on the deployment of RPA tools to automate and optimize complex workflows in procurement, inventory management, order processing, transportation scheduling, and last-mile delivery. Prof. Thibbotuwawa will demonstrate how RPA, when integrated with data analytics and machine learning, can significantly improve operational efficiency, reduce lead times, and enhance visibility across the supply chain. Special attention will be given to applications in cold chain logistics, drone-based delivery systems, and energy-efficient transport planning—highlighting the role of automation in building resilient and sustainable supply networks.
Participants will gain practical insights into the challenges and opportunities of adopting RPA in real-world logistics settings, including cost-benefit considerations, system integration, and workforce impacts. A live Q&A segment will follow, encouraging attendees to engage in meaningful discussions and explore innovative use cases with the speaker.
Hosted by IEEE YP Sri Lanka, this session is designed for professionals, researchers, and students looking to deepen their understanding of the strategic role RPA plays in transforming modern supply chain ecosystems under Industry 4.0.
