IEEE Region 8 Collaborative Student Initiatives Booster Program
Application: IDAC & IKSEC 2025 – Sustainable Engineering & STEM Outreach
IEEE Kenyatta University Student Branch | Nairobi, Kenya

The International Day of the African Child (IDAC) 2025 and IEEE Kenya Sustainable Engineering Challenge (IKSEC) 2025 is a collaborative, student-led STEM outreach initiatives under the IEEE Region 8 Collaborative Student Initiatives Booster Program. Hosted by the IEEE Kenyatta University Student Branch in partnership with other leading IEEE Student Branches and Young Professionals in Kenya, the event is scheduled for Friday, June 20, 2025, at Mama Ngina University College, Gatundu Constituency, Kiambu County.

Aligned with World Environment Day, the initiative will bring together over 100 junior high school students, IEEE students and YP members, and industry mentors to co-create real-world solutions to pressing environmental issues. Themed "Innovating for a Greener Future", the program will feature a sustainable engineering hackathon, technical workshops, interactive science booths, and mentorship panels that empower young learners to explore careers in engineering, climate resilience, and green technology.

This year’s edition marks a significant scale-up from previous mentorship-only engagements, introducing practical project development, prototyping, and pitching by the students, supported by IEEE mentors. The initiative aims to build long-term impact by setting up IEEE STEM Clubs in participating schools and fostering early interest in engineering careers. Through strong cross-university collaboration, hands-on learning, and meaningful community impact, IDAC & IKSEC 2025 exemplifies the IEEE mission of advancing technology for humanity, starting from the grassroots.
