A team of 6 students from Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management(SMVITM), Bantakal conducted a Mentoring Program for the project PaperPro SustainaBot for a week at Atal Tinkering Lab of S.R PUBLIC SCHOOL, Hebri from July 20-27 2025 under SIGHT Initiative of IEEE Mangalore Subsection and ATL mentoring program in association with IEEE Student Branch of SMVITM.

The mentoring sessions were conducted under the coordination and Guidance of Mr. Nagaraja Rao, IEEE SB Coordinator, SMVITM and in the presence of Mrs. Bhagavathi, Principal, S.R. Public School, Hebri, and Mrs. Pratheeksha Acharya, ATL Coordinator, SR Public School, Hebri. On the first day, the student team—Vinish Acharya, Aarush Shetty, and Akarsh A Shetty (all from 8th Std)  presented their project idea –“ PaperPro SustainaBot” . Their concept was reviewed for technical feasibility, and a structured work plan was finalized for the week.

The second day focused on basic electronics and circuit building, providing participants with hands-on experience in setting up simple circuits. On the third day, attention shifted to the mechanical structure of the robot. The fourth day involved assembling various components of the recycling unit, including the shredding and pulping mechanisms.

On the fifth and sixth days, the focus was on programming the microcontroller like arduino mega and uno,identifying and resolving software bugs, and ensuring system logic functionality. The final day concluded with the integration of hardware and software, followed by successful testing and execution of the complete robot setup.

The mentoring program was both educational and enjoyable, with  participation from the students.. The project, PaperPro SustainaBot, has  also been selected for the National-Level STEM Innovation League (Delhi), organized by STEMROBO, one of India’s largest AI and Robotics competitions.

Students from the ECE Department, SMVITM – K. Narayan Prabhu, Divyanth, Preetham, Karthik Patil, Madhusudhan S., and K. Anusha Prabhu  served as resource persons and guided students  throughout the sessions. Their support and clear guidance helped ensure smooth execution of the Program  and active engagement from all Students.
