SPS Hyderabad Section DIS Lecture on Easy and Lazy Technical Writing: Solid logic to invoke an Aha-Experience@ VNRVJIET on 18th August 2025, 10 AM
Greetings!
The Department of ECE, EEE, IEEE SPS Chapter – VNRVJIET & IEEE VNRVJIET SB, in collaboration with the IEEE SPS Hyderabad Chapter and IEEE Hyderabad Section, proposes to organize a Distinguished Lecture on “Easy and Lazy Technical Writing: Solid Logic to Invoke an Aha-Experience” by Dr. Akihiko K. Sugiyama on 18th August 2025 at the B-Block Seminar Hall, VNRVJIET.
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."
— Albert Einstein
This talk presents a simple and practical approach for inexperienced authors to write technical papers with a higher chance of acceptance.
In technical writing, success largely depends on logical structuring before the drafting process begins. By examining the reviewer's perspective, the value of the paper and the trick to achieve it are identified as the two most critical elements of the paper's logical framework. This insight is reinforced by a diamond-shaped structure that illustrates the relationship between expectation and reality.
To gain an overview of the manuscript and refine its logical structure, preparing slides before drafting proves helpful. A three-point analysis, performed prior to slide preparation, helps identify the value, trick, and problem addressed in the paper. This is facilitated using a specially designed three-point analysis sheet, which uses a font size of 36 points—forcing authors to repeatedly distill and refine their ideas to capture the core essence.
Once the value and trick are clearly identified, designing the paper title and topic sentence becomes straightforward. Examples are provided to help authors understand how to perform the three-point analysis effectively.
In the drill session, participants will have the opportunity to apply the three-point analysis method to their own papers.
