In Pakistan, orphans form one of the most marginalized groups, with UNICEF estimating their number at around 4.2 million. A large proportion of these children lack shelter, often living on the streets where they are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, drug use, crime, and begging. Since the majority of them are under the age of 17, ensuring access to both primary and higher education is vital for their future and for the upliftment of society as a whole. With this in mind, a collaborative project between the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, and Al-Ijaz Education System, Punjab, was launched to engage orphaned children in STEM-based learning. The initiative aimed to empower certified orphans through interactive educational activities that serve both a humanitarian and developmental purpose.

As part of the project, a STEM workshop was organized for 40 students aged 10–15. The workshop featured hands-on learning experiences in areas such as electronic circuits, robotics, radar, the Internet of Things (IoT), and home automation. To encourage continued exploration beyond the sessions, each student received a STEM workbook designed to guide further self-learning and practice. This initiative was made possible through support from the IEEE Region 10 Educational Activities Project Development Grant 2025 and was carefully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on eradicating poverty, promoting quality education, and reducing inequalities.
