The IEEE RGMCET Student Branch (STB16391) organized an inspiring guest lecture on “Entrepreneurship as a Career Choice” delivered by Dr. Jay Merja, Director at BYWAY, Global Shaper – Ahmedabad Hub.
The event began with opening remarks by Ms. B. Kavya, Chair – IEEE RGMCET STB16391, who welcomed the resource person and participants and emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship as an alternative career path for engineering students.
During the session, Dr. Jay Merja shared his entrepreneurial journey and experiences, highlighting the opportunities and challenges in building startups. He motivated students to think innovatively and to pursue entrepreneurship as a career option that can contribute to society and self-growth.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session, where students asked insightful questions related to business ideas, challenges in startups, and the role of innovation in entrepreneurship.
The program concluded with closing remarks by Dr. V. Narasimhulu, Counselor – IEEE RGMCET STB16391, who appreciated the resource person for his valuable talk and encouraged students to take inspiration from such sessions.

Biography:
Jay is a self-driven and enthusiastic entrepreneur who owns and operates multiple ventures. He began with a technology-based logistics and supply Chain Company and later expanded into various sectors; including a premium gourmet retail store, several clothing brand outlets, and construction and realty businesses.
Jay holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship and Management, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Business Entrepreneurship from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), and a Master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is also an Electronics and Communication Engineer by education.
Jay started his career as a Project Manager at the National Innovation Foundation, focusing on grassroots-level innovations. Throughout his career, he has conducted numerous research projects in the fields of education, entrepreneurship, and technology, developing various products and strategies. He is an active contributor to the startup ecosystem in Gujarat.
He serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE's Potential Magazine and is a board member of IEEE Educational Activities in the USA. Jay is also a Shaper with the Global Shapers Community, an initiative by the World Economic Forum based in Switzerland. His influence extends internationally, collaborating with global leaders to promote sustainable development and innovative business practices. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has published several articles in reputed journals on entrepreneurship and innovation.
