IEEE RAS MD SESSION : STEP INTO ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION

On 21st September 2025, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society SBC TKMCE organized an 
engaging membership development session titled “Step into Robotics and Automation.” The 
session commenced at 4:30 PM and was conducted through Google Meet. The guest speaker 
was Ms. Angel Joy, Membership Development Coordinator, IEEE RAS Kerala Chapter. 
 
The speaker began the session by quoting Mark Twain: “The secret of getting ahead is getting 
started.” She provided a brief introduction to the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society 
(RAS) and highlighted its global presence with 19,000+ members across 120+ countries. 
 
The session focused on the opportunities available for IEEE RAS members, including the 
Sustainability Grant, IROS Social Media Ambassadors Program, ROBOIGNITE initiative, and 
Member Support Program. Ms. Angel Joy elaborated on the benefits of membership, such 
as networking, career development, skill building through access to leading journals, and 
leadership opportunities through volunteering.

She also gave an overview of the vibrant activities of the IEEE RAS Kerala Section, mentioning 
flagship initiatives like PRAYANA and AKRASC, as well as various hackathons, competitions, 
conferences, and technical events. She emphasized that the Kerala Section has 36 active 
SBCs with over 700 members, organizing 50+ annual events. Furthermore, she explained 
the range of resources available to members, including publications, journals, conferences, 
grants, and scholarships. 
 
The session concluded at 5:10 PM after an interactive discussion, where participants actively 
engaged with the speaker and clarified their doubts. A total of 38 participants attended the 
session, gaining valuable insights into the importance of IEEE RAS membership and the 
professional opportunities it offers.
