IEEE DAY 2025
IEEE Day 2025 at Mahindra University will be a vibrant and inspiring occasion, showcasing academic achievement, innovation, and community spirit under the theme ‘Sustainability, Eco-friendliness and Women in Engineering’. This vibrant occasion will bring together distinguished educators, industry experts, researchers, and students to reflect on the values of IEEE while envisioning a sustainable and inclusive future. Guided by the student branch motto “Empathy for Society and Commitment to Science,” the day will highlight professional development, social engagement, and hands-on participation, ensuring an immersive experience for all.
The day’s festivities will begin with the inaugural session, graced by esteemed guests from the IEEE Hyderabad Section. Prof. Vijayalata Reddy (Ex-Chair, IEEE Hyderabad Section), Prof. Padmasai Yarlagadda (Chair, IEEE Signal Processing Society, Hyderabad Chapter), Dr. Lakshminarayana Merugu (Ex-Chair, IEEE MTT Hyderabad Chapter), and Prof. Harshavardhini (Chair, IEEE WIE Hyderabad Chapter) will lead official inaugurations of newly formed IEEE chapters at the university. This milestone moment will also include the felicitation of eminent educators: Prof. Kalluri Ramalinga Sarma (Ex-IIT Kanpur) and Prof. G. Bhuvaneswari (IEEE Fellow; Ex-IIT Delhi), honoring their outstanding contributions to education and engineering. An executive lunch will follow, offering invited guests an opportunity to network and celebrate shared goals.
A campus tour will provide visitors with a glimpse into Mahindra University’s cutting-edge research centers, innovation hubs, libraries, and laboratories. This unique window into the institution’s growth will highlight the university’s commitment to advancing technology, fostering interdisciplinary learning, and creating real-world impact.
In the afternoon sessions, the focus shifts to intellectual exchange and forward-looking perspectives. Keynote talks by Prof. Vijayalata Reddy and Prof. Padmasai Yarlagadda will address the challenges and opportunities in promoting women in science and engineering, inspiring students to embrace diversity and leadership in STEM. This will be followed by a series of technical expert talks featuring prominent thought leaders: Prof. Ram Mohan Vemuri (former Intel), Prof. G. Bhuvaneswari (Ex-IIT Delhi), Dr. Prafulla Kalapatapu (AI/ML specialist), and Dr. Shivdasini S. Amin (Life Coach). Their sessions will cover state-of-the-art developments in technology, evolving opportunities in engineering, and the critical role of women in shaping sustainable scientific ecosystems. A networking tea break will offer time for engaging conversations and building professional connections.
Parallel student-focused activities will add dynamism to the day. Paper presentations by young researchers will spotlight original contributions and diverse perspectives, with a conscious effort to ensure at least 50% participation by female students, reflecting IEEE’s commitment to inclusion. A workshop track will cover quantum computing and robotics, offering hands-on exposure to two of the most transformative areas of modern science. This track will culminate in a thought-provoking expert session by Prof. Jayasri Dontabhaktuni.
To foster creativity and community engagement, a series of art, quiz, and sustainability drives will be conducted in parallel. Coordinated primarily by female volunteers, these activities will include a themed quiz competition, photography and painting showcasing ideas of sustainability, eco-friendliness, women’s safety, and workplace health. The campus community will also participate in a university campus cleaning drive, underscoring the responsibility of engineers as role models for environmental stewardship. Volunteers will recognize and reward the efforts of the female cleaning staff, ensuring inclusivity and appreciation. A spirited cycling event is also planned, encouraging fitness and symbolizing unity in collective action.
The closing segment of the program begins with the valedictory session, where participants and winners will receive certificates, marking their achievements. In line with the theme, all gifts are designed to be eco-friendly, with efforts evaluated through a sustainability score of 3.8 out of 5, reflecting the university’s dedication to measurable impact. The day will conclude on a celebratory note with refreshments, sustainable snacks, and engaging IEEE-themed stalls, giving participants more opportunities to connect, reflect, and celebrate the spirit of engineering.
IEEE Day 2025 at Mahindra University will stand out not just as an academic program but as a platform where knowledge, empathy, responsibility, creativity, and inclusivity come together. With inspiring talks, forward-looking workshops, hands-on sustainability initiatives, and cultural activities, the celebration will embody the essence of IEEE: advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, while nurturing the values of empathy, diversity, and commitment to society.

Biography:
Dr. Padma Sai has had a remarkable career in teaching and research, especially in the field of Bio-medical Signal Processing. She has moved up the ranks from being an Associate Professor to a Professor, taking on important roles like Head of Department and Dean of Students Progression. Alongside her academic success, Dr. Padma Sai is highly respected in professional groups like IEEE and IETE.
Dr. Padma Sai is not just focused on her own achievements; she is passionate about passing on that excitement to her students. She actively helps and guides students interested in topics like Bio-Medical, Signal and Image Processing, and AI. Many of her students have done well, with six earning Ph.D. degrees and five currently working under her guidance. Dr. Padma Sai's dedication to inspiring a love for research is clear not only in her teaching but also in her involvement in groups like IEEE, IETE, and ISTE, where she plays leadership roles to support her students' growth.
In addition to her work in education, Dr. Padma Sai is part of an entrepreneurial venture, co-founding Salcit Technologies Pvt Ltd and contributing to patents related to respiratory health. Recognition from The United Inventors Association (UIA) of the USA and receiving Gold Medals at international events highlight her innovative spirit. Dr. Padma Sai has also organized successful events, showing how research can be applied in real-life situations.
As a teacher, researcher, and entrepreneur, Dr. Padma Sai's story is truly inspiring. Through her leadership and love for learning, she not only pushes the boundaries of research but also encourages her students to be curious and dedicated, creating a new generation of thinkers and innovators ready to make a big impact in their fields.

Dr. Ram Mohan Vemuri of Mahindra University
Bridging Technology and Inclusion
Dr. Ram Mohan Vemuri will deliver an expert talk titled “Designing the Future: Insights from Intel’s Journey in VLSI, SoC, and Inclusive Engineering”, where he shares his experiences from decades at Intel, exploring advances in semiconductor design, system-on-chip innovation, and the vital role of women in shaping the future of engineering.
Biography:
Dr. Ram Mohan Vemuri brings with him over thirty years of rich experience at both technical and managerial levels in the semiconductor industry. His professional journey began after completing his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, where his dissertation focused on “Genetic Algorithms for Partitioning, Placement, & Layer Assignment for Multichip Modules.”
Following his doctorate, Dr. Vemuri joined LSI Logic Corporation, contributing to the development of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, which were considered industry-leading at the time. He then moved to Intel Corporation in Portland, Oregon, where he spent the next 25 years. At Intel, he worked on some of the company’s most significant projects, including the Pentium 4 processor, various microprocessor and System-on-Chip (SoC) designs, and the development of automation tools that streamlined design and validation processes. Over the years, his technical expertise and leadership earned him the role of Senior Manager at Intel.
In December 2021, after a distinguished career in the United States, Dr. Vemuri opted for voluntary retirement and returned to India to continue his passion for teaching and research. He is now a Professor at Mahindra University, where he contributes his vast industry experience to shaping the next generation of engineers.
Dr. Vemuri holds a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and an M.Tech. in Systems Engineering from IIT-BHU, followed by an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, where his thesis focused on “Active Noise Control Using Adaptive Filtering.”
With his unique blend of academic excellence and decades of hands-on industry experience, Professor Vemuri serves as an inspiring mentor, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world technological innovation.

Prof. G. Bhuvaneswari of Mahindra University
Women in Engineering
Dr. G. Bhuvaneswari will present an engaging talk on “Women in Engineering,” highlighting the achievements, challenges, and transformative impact of women in shaping the future of science and technology.
Biography:
Dr. G. Bhuvaneswari has been working as a Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, in Mahindra University since March 2021. Before this, she was working as a faculty member in the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi from August 1997 to March 2021. She graduated with a B.E. degree from the College of Engineering., Guindy, Anna University Madras in 1985 and with M.Tech. & Ph.D. degrees (in 1988 and 1992, respectively) from IIT Madras. After completing her Ph.D., she worked as a Lecturer in the Dept. of EEE, College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras for over one year; then, she worked in the Electrical Utility Company ComEd, Chicago Illinois USA for about 3 years. After this, she returned to India to join IIT Delhi. Her areas of specialization are Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Drives and all their application areas like power supply, power quality, HVDC, electric drives, electric vehicles, battery charging and renewable energy. She undertook sponsored and consultancy projects worth of Rs. 7 crores from various organizations like DRDO, DST, CSIR, MHRD, KVIC, BHEL and Copper-alliance. She has graduated 15 Ph.D. students and 75 Master’s students. She is the only Indian woman engineer to have been elected as an international member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) USA. She is an elected Fellow of IEEE-USA, Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET)-UK, Institution of Engineers-India, Indian National Academy of Engineering, and IETE-India. She received the IEEE Wanda-Reder Pioneer in Power Award in 2018, IEEE Outstanding Power Engineer Award from IEEE Delhi section in 2016 and Bimal K. Bose award from IETE in 2011.
She was the founder coordinator of Sumant Sinha Renew Centre of Excellence in Energy and Environment in IIT Delhi from Dec 2016-April 2019. She had been playing an active role in IEEE Delhi section; she was the Chair of IEEE PELS-IES Delhi Chapter during 2010-11 and 2018-19. Under her stewardship, this chapter received the Best Chapter Award in 2011 from the IEEE Headquarters. She is currently the Senior Associate Editor of the Sadhana Journal from Indian Academy of Sciences and the Editor of the Transactions of the INAE. She was earlier an Associate Editor for the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Industrial Electronics and Editor for the journal of the Institution of Engineers, India. She has over 200 publications in National and International journals and peer-reviewed conferences.

Dr. prafulla Kalapatapu of Mahindra University
Intelligent Futures: AI/ML Innovations and the Role of Women in Engineering
Dr. Prafulla Kalapatapu will deliver an expert talk exploring the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, while emphasizing the growing contributions and leadership of women in advancing these cutting-edge fields.
Biography:
Dr. Prafulla Kalapatapu, Faculty member in Department of Computer Science, at Mahindra University, École Centrale School of Engineering, institute is in collaboration involving the Mahindra Group and École Central Paris (now CentraleSupélec).
Prof Prafulla is an astute professional with zeal to excel in all spheres of Teaching and research-oriented assignments. Over 20 years of teaching experience at leading Indian academic institutions like BITS, Pilani, Hyderabad, especially worked in diverse areas such as Object Oriented Technologies, Machine Learning extending into Deep Learning, Data Mining, Information retrieval, Compiler Constructions and Programming languages. Guided and delivered many research-oriented projects in undergraduate and post graduate level in the areas of Music Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, E-Business and Structural Health Monitoring.
At Mahindra University, along with one of the Civil Engineering faculty colleague, founded and started Center of Excellence, “Center for Sustainable Infrastructure and Systems (CSIS)”, an interdisciplinary research center with the blend of Computer Science and Civil Engineering. Center works primarily in the area of Machine Learning and Data Analytics for Civil Engineering applications, especially in Heritage Structures and structural health monitoring. Our team has published over 20 articles on how machine learning algorithms like CNNs, RNNs, GANs can be utilized in estimating the structural health of a construction using images and other sensor data, which is imperative in replacing destructive testing techniques with non-destructive ones. Co-chaired for NIKETH-2018- Housing Chronicles of India.
Prof Prafulla is in collaboration with Professor’s from University of Austin, Texas and University of Florida dealing with research projects. Chaired IEEE and ACM Technically sponsored series of International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Sciences (ICMLDS) for two consecutive years and also served as Organizational Chair for IEEE Technically Co-sponsored International Conference on Emerging Trends in Computational Intelligence (ICETCI). Apart from this organized many interdisciplinary events.

Dr. Shivdasini S. Amin, MCC (ICF) will deliver an expert talk that emphasizes a strong body, a calm mind, a light heart, and clarity of purpose are the essence of holistic well-being.
Biography:
Dr. Shivdasini S. Amin, MCC (ICF), is a Professor at the School of Law, Mahindra University, with over 29 years of experience in corporate and academic leadership. She is an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Master Certified Coach and holds the Professional Certified Power Coach credential from Coaching and Leadership International Inc. Her excellence in leadership coaching has earned her prestigious recognition, including the Global Top 100 Exemplary Coaching Leaders Award (2024) and the 100 Most Influential Coaching Leaders in India (2023).
Throughout her career, Dr. Amin has combined academic rigor with industry insight, bringing expertise in Leadership, Business Strategy, Sales and Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Organizational Behavior, and Change Management. She has served as an Organizational Development partner, shaping high-performing organizations through progressive talent practices, communication strategies, and learning and development programs. At Mahindra University, she teaches a wide range of courses, including Organizational Behaviour, Consumer Behaviour, Strategic Management, Business Communication, Critical Thinking, Communication for Educators, Economics, and Risk Management.
Prior to joining Mahindra University, Dr. Amin held academic roles at institutions such as the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), where she was an Associate Professor and played a pivotal role in organizing TEDxLBSIM events between 2012 and 2015. She has also been a faculty member and leader at the Fortune Institute of International Business and the Apeejay School of Management, where she contributed to placements, corporate outreach, and leadership development programs.
Her corporate experience spans logistics, community welfare, and education management, where she has taken on senior roles, including Region Head HR at Transport Corporation of India Ltd. and trainer-consultant positions with organizations such as the Army Wives Welfare Association. She has also been an empanelled coach and consultantwith leading organizations including Lee Hecht Harrison and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, where she has delivered impactful leadership and emotional intelligence programs.
An inspiring motivational speaker and trainer, Dr. Amin has been a sought-after resource person for Management Development Programs (MDPs) on diverse topics, including coaching, leadership, conflict management, negotiation skills, presentation skills, time management, and creativity and innovation.
Dr. Amin earned her Ph.D. in Management from Jodhpur National University with a thesis on “Quality Management in Higher Education with specific reference to Management Education in Delhi-NCR.” She holds an MBA in Marketing from GITAM (then affiliated with Andhra University), a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, and a B.A. in Economics from Bombay University.

Dr. Jayasri Dontabhaktuni of Mahindra University
Quantum Computing
Dr. Jayasri Dontabhaktuni will deliver a thought-provoking talk on Quantum Computing, exploring its fundamental principles, emerging technologies, and the revolutionary impact it promises to bring to computation and communication systems.
Biography:
Dr. Jayasri Dontabhaktuni is an Professor in Department of Physics at Mahindra University. She is involved in teaching Classical and Quantum mechanics, Electromagnetic theory, Quantum Computing (elective), Nano thermodynamics for undergraduates and numerical methods for post-graduate students.
Dr. Dontabhaktuni pursued her Ph.D. in Physics from University of Hyderabad, India. She went to pursue her post-doctoral studies with prestigious Marie-Curie fellowship at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia during 2009-2011. She got selected for DST FASTTRACK young scientist award in 2012 and Dr. D. S. Kothari fellowship in 2013 before joining Mahindra Ecole Centrale as Assistant Professor in Physics in 2014.
Her current research interests primarily include Quantum Algorithms, Soft photonics, dielectric metasurfaces, quantum technologies specifically using light-matter interactions with nanostructures and Inverse design of materials. She has been working on primarily design and application of novel devices using numerical simulations. In Quantum computing her main interests include hybrid quantum machine learning for robotics and health care applications, generative methods for inverse design of materials, optimization methods, etc.
She has conducted various training programs on Quantum Computing, acted as resource person in FDP’s and workshops. She has conducted training on Quantum Computing to corporate engineers and other industry professionals apart from academia.
She published in more than 20 international peer-reviewed journals with some prestigious journals like PNAS, Scientific Reports, Softmatter, etc and filed patents.

Breaking Barriers: The Role of Women in Engineering and Sciences
Dr. Y. Vijayalata will highlight the remarkable contributions of women in engineering and scientific fields, inspiring the next generation to pursue innovation, leadership, and equality in STEM.
Biography:
Dr.Y Vijayalata , an academician with more than 21 years of teaching and research experience, Dr.Y.Vijayalata, Professor and Head, Department of Information Technology; completed her Ph.D. from JNTU Hyderabad. She earned M.Tech. in Computer Science from BITS, Ranchi.
Dr.Y. Vijayalata ’s area of research includes Image Processing, Cloud Computing, and Big-Data Analytics. She has published more than 25 papers in various journals and conferences. She also mentored TCS student internships at GRIET.
She has been the Head of Department of Information Technology since August 2013. Before this, she worked as a Professor in the Department of CSE at GRIET from November 2007 to August 2013. The department of IT is NBA-accredited twice under her dynamic leadership. She played an instrumental role both at the department and institutional levels during the NAAC and UGC inspections. Under her leadership, the institute has successfully organized the National Level Technical Fest “PRAGNYA” in association with the professional bodies at GRIET for the past 10 years. Active participant, involved in all the college activities including in-house projects designed for the students. Attended many workshops/conferences (national/international) conducted by JNTUH, NIT (Warangal) etc.,
She is the recipient of the “Distinguished Leader in Engineering” Higher Education Leadership Awards-HELA 2018, Venus International Foundation. Also, Recipient of “Best Head of Department (IT)” by ITSR Foundation Award-2017.
She has been the Branch Counsellor for IEEE GRIET Student Branch since 2011. And also Branch Advisor for IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) at GRIET. She is the advisor for GRIET TEDx 2017.Chief Coordinator, Spoken Tutorials, IIT Bombay 2016-2017. She is currently a professor at the Vardhaman College of Engineering, Hyderabad.
