MALAYSIA SEMICONDUCTOR RECRUITMENT DAY 2025
This visit, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, was organized by INVEBOT, an electrical engineering club from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB), UKM in collaboration with IEEE UKM Student Branch 2025/2026. The program aimed to provide exposure to students of the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Systems Engineering (JKEES) regarding the semiconductor industry, particularly in terms of technological development and skilled workforce requirements. As one of the strategic sectors in the high-tech industry, semiconductors play a vital role in the development of the nation’s digital economy. Through participation in the Malaysia Semiconductor Recruitment Day (MSRD), students gained a deeper understanding of the industry ecosystem as well as the role of engineers throughout the entire value chain—from chip design, fabrication, and packaging, to testing and product verification.
Throughout the program, students were also exposed to various technical presentations and talks covering the latest developments in the industry. These included presentations on the semiconductor landscape in Malaysia, online learning approaches by ARM University, and technical updates by Synopsys Singapore. Each session provided direct insights into how technologies such as automation, integrated circuit (IC) design, and engineering software are applied in the semiconductor sector.
Additionally, students participated in the Taiwan Terrence Start-Up Demo Day, where various start-up companies showcased innovative technological solutions with commercialization potential. This session opened new perspectives for students on technology entrepreneurship and highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation in the engineering field.
Students also had the opportunity to build professional networks through interactions with industry representatives, simultaneously enhancing their confidence and communication skills in a professional environment.
Through this visit, students are expected to gain a clearer understanding of career paths in the semiconductor field, as well as identify the technical and soft skills required to improve their employability. Exposure to current technologies, interview processes, and real industrial environments enables students to prepare earlier before undergoing industrial training.
Overall, this program not only provided hands-on experience in the high-tech industry but also strengthened the relationship between the university and the semiconductor industry. It is hoped that this visit will serve as an important starting point in guiding students to plan their career paths in engineering and technology.
