On 20th September 2025, the IEEE Computer Society Chandigarh University Student Branch Chapter (SBC), in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society IEM Student Branch Chapter (SBC), successfully organized an insightful and knowledge-enriching session titled “Road to Richard E. Merwin Scholarship”.

The session was delivered by Ms. Nyasha Saurabh, Former Chairperson of IEEE CS Chandigarh University SBC, Richard E. Merwin (REM) Scholar 2024, and currently a Network Engineer at Capgemini.

Ms. Nyasha drew upon her own first-hand journey as an REM Scholar to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the scholarship and its significance. She explained the application process in detail, highlighting the importance of leadership qualities, impactful contributions to IEEE, and strong technical and communication skills. Participants were guided on how to effectively structure their applications, present achievements, and demonstrate leadership and community engagement to increase their chances of selection.

The session also included an interactive Q&A segment, where attendees clarified their doubts regarding eligibility, application tips, and the selection process. Ms. Nyasha shared practical strategies, do’s and don’ts, and real-world insights from her personal experience, making the session highly engaging and relatable for students aspiring to apply for the scholarship.

The collaboration between IEEE CS Chandigarh University SBC and IEEE CS IEM SBC played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success, enabling smooth coordination and maximum outreach. The active participation of students further enriched the session, as their questions and enthusiasm contributed to a dynamic exchange of ideas.

Overall, the session proved to be inspiring and highly motivating, equipping attendees with valuable knowledge and confidence to pursue the Richard E. Merwin Scholarship. It not only informed students about the technicalities of the scholarship but also instilled the spirit of leadership and active engagement in IEEE activities.
