On the Journey of Making Robot Operating Systems (ROS) Real-Time
Speaker: Prof. Jian-Jia Chen (TU Dortmund University)
Abstract: The Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2) is a widely used middleware that provides software libraries and tools for developing robotic systems. ROS 2 was announced in 2014 with a significant change to ROS, intended to support real-time capabilities. ROS 2 provides opportunities to configure real-time properties through its use of the Data Distribution Services (DDS) for real-time communication and its custom scheduling abstraction. In this talk, I will summarize the community efforts to make the real-time capabilities from a promise towards reality. Although we are still in the mid way, the future seems promising.
Bio: Jian-Jia Chen is Professor at Department of Informatics in TU Dortmund University in Germany. He was Junior professor at Department of Informatics in Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany from May 2010 to March 2014.
