The talk will provide an overview of the concept and importance of technical standards, with focus on mobile communication standards. It will provide an in-depth look into the mobile standardisation ecosystem, and the 3GPP standardisation process, before outlining specific examples showing various trade-offs in decisions on whether or not to standardise a certain aspect of a communications system. The talk will conclude with a look at the recently started 6G work in 3GPP, with focus on RAN aspects.

He is currently heading up a team of research & standards engineers covering 3GPP RAN2/SA2/CT1/SA1 and ITU/Spectrum/ETSI/GSA work, with several direct reports and various project management duties, while producing own technical contribution to 3GPP RAN2 Working Group on behalf of Samsung, with focus on various User Plane aspects of 5G and beyond.

Milos holds a PhD from the University of Bristol, UK, awarded in 2008 for his work on robust wireless transmission of video. Milos has published around 30 scholarly articles (which have generated over 1,000 citations to date), and 60+ patent applications, which have led to over 45 individual US patent grants to date. He has considerable people management and project management experience, both on internal and externally funded research projects. Milos is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Milos has won numerous awards, including multiple Samsung R&D UK Patent of the Year awards, several Samsung R&D UK Project of the Year awards (as team member and team lead), and is a recipient of multiple scholarships and bursaries including Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) visiting scholar, IABM Engineering Student Award, IEE Vodafone Postgraduate Scholarship, and the ORS (Overseas Research Scholarship) from the UK government. He has held various external technical leadership appointments, including 3GPP RAN2 IAB MAC specification rapporteur, 3GPP RAN2 NCR MAC specification rapporteur, EU project METIS-II Work Package lead, and EU project LEXNET Work Package lead.
