On 17th October 2025, the IEEE NSU Student Branch WIE Affinity Group, in collaboration with the IEEE NSU Student Branch, hosted a webinar titled “From Particles to Patterns: Quantum Computing as the Engine of the Next AI Revolution.” The event was organized in celebration of IEEE Day 2025 and Ada Lovelace Day 2025 and featured Dr. Sumaiya Tabassum Nimi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University. Dr. Nimi is a leading voice in quantum machine learning and quantum computation.

The session began with an introductory segment by the hosts, who welcomed the audience and invited Dr. Nimi to begin her lecture.

Dr. Nimi delivered a captivating and well-structured talk tracing the evolution of quantum computing and its deep connection to modern AI. She began by revisiting the scientific breakthroughs that paved the way for quantum computation starting with Einstein’s interpretation of light as both a particle and a wave, progressing through Schrödinger’s wave equation, and Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle. These fundamental discoveries laid the foundations of quantum mechanics. She then connected these principles to computer science, explaining how various computational fields intersect with quantum theory. Moving forward, she introduced the origins of deep learning, the development of neural networks, and how these classical models eventually lead to the emerging frontier of Quantum AI.

Dr. Nimi emphasized that Quantum AI has the potential to merge “the physics of the universe” with “the intelligence that learns from it,” opening transformative possibilities for the future of artificial intelligence. She highlighted how Quantum AI could redefine scalability, optimization, data processing, and problem-solving capabilities across industries.

She also invited participants to explore QUICK Quantum Mechanics Guided Intelligent Computation for Knowledge-Based Systems, encouraging students to engage with research at the intersection of quantum physics and AI. She concluded her talk by noting that Ada Lovelace herself would likely have worked in Quantum AI if she were alive today.

A lively interactive Q&A session followed, where Dr. Nimi answered questions on research directions, industry relevance, and the evolving role of quantum technologies in computing.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the IEEE NSU Student Branch WIE Affinity Group, expressing deep appreciation for Dr. Nimi’s insightful and inspiring session.
