IEEE Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the first time in history when engineers
worldwide and IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884. It symbolizes the spirit
of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among engineers and technologists. The day is
marked by global events, workshops, technical talks, and community service projects organized by
IEEE student branches and professional sections. It serves as a reminder of how technology and
teamwork can drive positive change in society.
Women in Engineering (WIE) is one of the largest international professional organizations dedicated
to promoting women engineers and scientists and inspiring young girls to pursue careers in
engineering. As part of IEEE, WIE focuses on empowering women through mentorship, networking
opportunities, leadership development, and recognition of achievements. It works to create a more
inclusive engineering community by supporting diversity, equal opportunities, and encouraging
collaboration across all fields of technology.

The celebration began with the inauguration of the Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group,
marking an important milestone for the college IEEE Student Branch. The newly appointed office
bearers of the WIE group took their oaths, committing to promote diversity, inclusion, and
empowerment among women in technology. This inauguration symbolized the start of new
opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and leadership development within the student
community.
Following this, the Computer Society Chapter of the IEEE Student Branch was also inaugurated, and
its office bearers were formally introduced. The formation of this chapter aims to enhance students’
technical knowledge and skills in computer science through workshops, hackathons, and researchdriven activities, further strengthening the branch’s role in promoting innovation and technical
excellence on campus.
The event also featured a special session by Dr. Ashwini Appaji, Vice Chair of the IEEE WIE India
Council, who delivered an insightful talk on the IEEE Day theme — “Global Impact, Student
Opportunities, and the Role of IEEE in Shaping Tomorrow.” Dr. Appaji emphasized the importance
of IEEE in fostering innovation, creating global connections, and empowering students to become
leaders in technology. Her session inspired attendees to actively engage in IEEE initiatives and
contribute to building a better technological future.
