I and the Future of Society: Humans vs AI – Who Decides?

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML), in association with the IEEE Student Branch of HKBK College of Engineering, organized an Interdepartmental Debate Competition on the theme “AI and the Future of Society: Humans vs AI – Who Decides?” on 13th October 2025 at Room D101.

The event began with an inaugural address in the presence of Dr. Tabassum Ara, HoD & Professor, Department of AIML, and Dean–IIC, HKBKCE.

The judging panel comprised:

  • Dr. Aryalekshmi, Associate Professor, Department of ECE, HKBKCE
  • Dr. Vilashini, Professor, Department of CSE, HKBKCE
  • Dr. Soumyolatha, Assistant Professor (Senior Scale), Manipal Institute of Technology
  • Dr. Raveendra G, Associate Professor, Department of ECE, HKBKCE

A total of 11 teams (5 participants per team) representing various departments participated in the event. Each team debated on contemporary AI issues such as automation, creativity, human control, and ethics.

The first round featured all 11 teams presenting their views under “Humans vs AI” perspectives, followed by open cross-questioning.
The second round shortlisted the top 6 teams based on clarity, argument strength, and originality.
The final round was an intense discussion focusing on “Ethics, Employment, and Governance in the Age of AI,” after which the winners were declared.

Results:

  • 1st Place: Team AIML (Laiba Nisha, Iyad Mohammad, Maera Fathima, Avanthika, Ishma Chukkan)
  • 2nd Place: Team ECE–ISE (Vaishnavi N, Sanika S D, Saniya S, Zulekha, Adila)
  •  3rd Place: Team ISE (Ankitha A, Madhumitha S, Gungun Kumari, Harshitha Saravanan, Blessey Sharon Smisha)

The event was coordinated by Prof. Deivanai G, Prof. Bharath V, and Prof. Afreen K, with student coordinators Syed Fatir and Mateen S from AIML
