Photography Contest 2025's "Essence of Nature"
As part of the IEEE Day 2025 Celebration, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in association with the IEEE Student Chapter, organized a Photography Contest on 9th September 2025 with the theme “Essence of Nature.” The event aimed to encourage students to explore their creativity and technical photography skills while fostering environmental awareness through visual storytelling.
The program commenced at 10:00 AM with a flag-off ceremony held at Lab 7, CSE Department. The session began with a welcome address by Professor Khallikkunaisa, the event organizer, who briefed the participants about the contest guidelines, evaluation criteria, and the importance of portraying the theme effectively through photographs.
Dr. Manjunath Kounte, Dean Academics, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Convener of the IEEE event, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of IEEE membership. He highlighted how IEEE serves as a global platform for students to enhance their professional skills, participate in research activities, and gain international exposure.
Dr. Smitha Kurian, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, emphasized the significance of organizing such IEEE events that nurture students’ technical acumen, creativity, and innovation. She appreciated the initiative for integrating art and technology, reflecting how engineering can contribute to environmental consciousness.
Dr. Abdul Azeez, IEEE Head, also addressed the participants and commended the department’s efforts in hosting engaging and meaningful events under the IEEE banner. He highlighted IEEE’s various initiatives and opportunities, such as IEEE scholarships, conferences, and WIE (Women in Engineering) programs, encouraging students to actively participate and make the best use of the IEEE platform.
Following the inaugural session, the Photography Contest was officially flagged off at 10:00 AM. Students registered enthusiastically and began capturing photographs that represented the beauty and vitality of nature in its various forms. Participants were given time until 2:00 PM to submit their entries online.
All submitted photographs were evaluated by Mr. Dinesh, a professional photographer, who assessed each entry based on multiple parameters — Composition, Creativity, Theme Relevance, Technical Quality, and Overall Impact. The judging process was carried out meticulously to ensure fairness and recognition of genuine talent. After a thorough evaluation, three outstanding entries were selected as winners for their exceptional portrayal of the theme “Essence of Nature.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Professor Khallikkunaisa, expressing gratitude to the management, dignitaries, judges, faculty coordinators, and participants for their contributions to the successful conduct of the event.
Overall, the Photography Contest not only showcased the artistic talents of the students but also served as a reminder of the harmony between technology, creativity, and nature. The event was a great success and added vibrancy to the IEEE Day 2025 celebrations at HKBK College of Engineering
