Many postgraduate students experience periods of uncertainty, stress, and self-doubt as they navigate academic and personal expectations. This session aims to provide practical guidance and supportive strategies to help students build confidence, strengthen resilience, and transition from simply managing day-to-day challenges to actively shaping a rewarding and fulfilling postgraduate journey.

Join us for an inspiring session: “From Drowning to Driving Your Postgraduate Journey” on 24 November (Online Session) 1:00 – 3:00 PM (GMT).

Speaker: Dr. Lina Mohjazi, Associate Professor at University of Glasgow.

Abstract:

Embarking on a postgraduate degree can feel like being thrown into deep waters - uncertain, overwhelming, and at times isolating. Yet, this very stage can also be one of the most transformative journeys in a student’s academic and personal life. From Drowning to Driving Your Postgraduate Journey will uncover the often-unspoken myths and challenges of postgraduate study, from navigating supervisory relationships and academic pressure to dealing with imposter syndrome and burnout. Drawing on my own experiences and the Aurora strategy that Dr. Mohjazi created, she will share practical tools and mindset shifts to help students cultivate resilience, maintain mental wellbeing, and find balance amidst the demands of research and life. This talk will highlight how to move from surviving to thriving - developing the confidence to steer your journey with clarity, purpose, and long-term vision. Ultimately, it is about reclaiming agency, building resilience, and ensuring that your postgraduate years become a launchpad for success rather than a source of struggle.
