Dear All,

Greetings from the IEEE GRSS Student Branch Chapter, IIT Indore!

We are pleased to invite you to an awareness seminar on Forest Fires, organized under the IEEE GRSS DEIAB initiative. This session will explore critical environmental, social, and cultural dimensions of forest fire dynamics in Central India.

Event Details:

Date: 20th November 2025
Time: 03:30 PM – 04:30 PM
Venue: POD 1B, 201, IIT Indore
Speaker: Mr. M. Amin Khan, IIT Indore

Seminar Overview:
This seminar offers an integrated examination of forest fire dynamics in Central India by combining geospatial analysis with socio-economic and cultural inquiry. Drawing on two decades of satellite-based fire data alongside 402 household surveys, interviews, and ethnographic observations, it investigates how forest fires emerge, who they affect, and how communities perceive and manage them. The seminar highlights key gaps between technocratic fire management approaches and Indigenous knowledge systems, showing how remote sensing insights become more meaningful when paired with grounded community perspectives. The discussion underscores the importance of mixed-methods approaches in understanding the complex social–ecological realities of fire-prone landscapes.

We warmly invite all faculty members, students, and research scholars to join us for this insightful session.
