NANOREVOLUTION
100 years of technology: from the invention of the transistor to Artificial Intelligence
Many people do not know what it is, and few know that without it, life (as we know it today) would not be possible. Yet, 100 years ago, the protagonist of this event was invented: the transistor, a tiny component that forms the chips that support our digital lives.
The rapid evolution of transistors has even made Artificial Intelligence possible, an increasingly central tool in everyday life, which raises questions about its potential future developments, the actual energy consumption it entails and the underlying geopolitical balances.
NANOREVOLUTION is an event organised by the Department of Information Engineering to discuss these issues and understand together the prospects for this tiny revolutionary object, the transistor. The event, open to all citizens, is part of the Third Mission initiatives of the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Padua.
