The RNSIT IEEE PELS Student Branch Chapter (SBC) and the IEEE AESS SBC successfully organized a joint Volunteer Recruitment Drive on November 27, 2025, in the Department of EEE,RNSIT. The primary objective of this drive was to identify and select enthusiastic, dedicated, and promising students from the 2nd year of engineering to serve as future volunteers and potential office bearers for both chapters.

The core aim was twofold:

  • Selection: To evaluate and select a cohort of motivated 2nd-year students through a structured registration and interview process.
  • Training & Development: To induct the selected volunteers into the organizational structure of IEEE and its SBCs, providing them with essential training on chapter operations, event management protocols, and the roles and responsibilities required of future office bearers.

The recruitment drive comprised two main phases:

  • Registration Process: The recruitment drive was specifically announced, targeting only the 2nd-year student cohort. Interested candidates were required to register their details, expressing their interest in contributing to the activities of either or both SBCs. The applications received from this targeted group demonstrated significant student enthusiasm and recognition of the value proposition offered by the IEEE chapters.
  • Interview and Selection Process: A dedicated interview panel, consisting of the current Office Bearers of the PELS and AESS SBCs, was constituted. The interviews were conducted in the EEE Department of RNSIT.

The interviews focused on assessing the following attributes in the candidates:

  • Motivation and Commitment: Understanding the student’s eagerness to volunteer and their perceived long-term commitment to the chapter.
  • Soft Skills: Evaluating communication, teamwork, and leadership potential.
  • Technical Interest: Gauging their specific interest areas relevant to Power Electronics (PELS) or Aerospace and Electronic Systems (AESS).
  • Understanding of IEEE: Basic awareness of the IEEE mission, structure, and the role of a Student Branch Chapter.

The selected candidates will begin working alongside the current Office Bearers for the entire upcoming semester. This direct, practical involvement serves as the core training methodology, eliminating the need for separate formal training modules.

The new volunteers will gain knowledge by:

  • Practical Involvement: Actively assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of all chapter activities and events.
  • Mentorship: Receiving direct guidance and knowledge transfer from the current leadership team on day-to-day operations, decision-making, and membership management.
  • Organizational Understanding: Learning the processes, protocols, and best practices of the IEEE Student Branch and its chapters (PELS and AESS) in and out of the institution.

Formal appointment to suitable Office Bearer positions will not be immediate. Instead, the new cohort will be continuously evaluated based on their performance, dedication, and active participation during this volunteering period. Based on this comprehensive performance assessment, the most deserving and competent individuals will be selected and appointed to appropriate Office Bearer roles for the subsequent academic year. This structured approach ensures continuity, competence, and sustainability in the leadership pipeline of both the PELS and AESS SBCs.

The joint volunteer recruitment drive conducted on 27th November 2025 was a resounding success, fulfilling its objective of identifying and securing a dynamic cohort of 2nd-year students. By focusing the recruitment and implementing a structured, experiential learning and merit-based appointment system, this initiative lays a strong foundation for the future leadership and continued excellence of the RNSIT IEEE Student Branch.
