1. Introduction

GreenCon 4.0 marked the fourth edition of a forward-thinking ideathon focused on advancing Tunisia’s transition from sustainability to regeneration through circular-economy innovation—the event aimed to empower participants to develop creative, impactful solutions to address environmental and societal challenges.

2. Event Overview

The ideathon gathered 30 participants, divided into 8 groups, fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary thinking. The event began with an opening session introducing:

  • The IEEE Student Branch and its mission

  • The concept and objectives of GreenCon and its 4th edition

  • The evaluation criteria and competition framework

Participants were then provided with a specification booklet outlining the challenge and expectations.

We had the chance to welcome Ms Nihel Ben Amar, who shared valuable insights about her experience within the UNESCO Ambassador Program as well as the IEEE SIGHT initiatives. Her intervention provided participants with a broader perspective on the impact of technology-driven projects in addressing real-world societal challenges.

3. Jury Panel

The ideathon was evaluated by a distinguished panel of experts:

  • Nihel Ben Amar
Energy Engineer, PhD in Industrial Process Engineering, Professor at INSAT, and researcher at LAMSIN (ENIT). She is also Tunisia’s National Representative for the Horizon Europe Mission “Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities” and UNESCO Chair holder in Water, Waste, and Energy.

  • Oumayma Sghayri
Telecommunications Engineer specialising in IoT, IEEE contributor, WIE Industry Expert, and active member in multiple IEEE committees.

  • Hadil Drissi
IEEE Tunisia Section Student Chapters Coordinator, IEEE PES R8 SCC Vice Chair, and Master’s student in Entrepreneurial Marketing & Innovation.

4. Ideation Phase

Following the briefing, participants engaged in an intensive 1-hour and 30-minute ideation session, where each group worked on proposing innovative regenerative solutions aligned with circular economy principles.
A short break was scheduled toward the end of this phase to maintain productivity and engagement.

5. Pitching Session

At 5:00 PM, each group presented their ideas to the jury through structured pitches for 6 minutes, and then they had a Q&A session for 4 minutes.

6. Results and Conclusion

At 6:00 PM, the jury announced the winning team based on the evaluation criteria. The event concluded with positive feedback from both participants and judges.
