Yayasan Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) successfully conducted its first STEM Education Programme for the children of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel in collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and IEEE Sensors and Nanotechnology Council Malaysia Joint Chapter at SMK Kem Terendak, marking an important milestone in early STEM exposure for secondary school students. A total of 60 Form One students participated in a 3D Printing module, fully designed and delivered by USM and IEEE Sensors and Nanotechnology Council Malaysia Joint Chapter. The session was led by Mr. Khairul Anuar bin Mohd Zain, a Research Officer from the Collaborative Microelectronic Design Excellence Centre (CEDEC), USM. Students were introduced to 3D design software, fundamental modelling techniques, real-scale dimensioning, and the complete workflow from digital design to physical fabrication. To ensure experiential learning, USM brought dedicated 3D printing equipment to the school, enabling live demonstrations and hands-on practice. Students actively engaged in the printing process and successfully produced their own 3D-printed objects by the end of the session. The main objective of the programme was to cultivate early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among students, while enhancing their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on engineering activities. The programme also aimed to expose students to emerging technologies, bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, and inspire them to pursue future studies and careers in technical and engineering fields.
