Biography:
Dr. Nowshad Amin is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering of The Islamic University of Madinah at Madinah, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Nowshad Amin also serves as an Honorary Research Professor at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), where he earlier served as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Dec. 2023 until July 2025. He was also the Deputy Director of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation at AIUB. Prior to that, he spent five years at the College of Engineering at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in Malaysia until Feb. 2023, where he led the Solar Energy Research Unit within the Institute of Sustainable Energy. Dr. Amin has also over 11 years of teaching experience in the Department of Electrical, Electronic & Systems Engineering at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). During his tenure, he headed the Solar Photovoltaic Research Group at the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI-UKM) from November 2006 to January 2018. He later served as an Adjunct Professor and an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at UKM until January 2024.
His academic journey began with distinguished secondary and higher secondary education at the Comilla Cadet College in Bangladesh. In 1990, he was awarded the Japanese Ministry of Education (MONBUSHO) scholarship to pursue a diploma in Electrical Engineering at Gunma National College of Technology, graduating in 1994. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering in 1996 from Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan, followed by a Master’s (1998) and PhD (2001) in solar photovoltaic technology from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Amin's expertise encompasses micro and nanoelectronics, renewable energy, and solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies. His research also focuses on commercializing solar photovoltaic products developed from his patented innovations. Notably, he served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of a university spin-off company funded by the Malaysian Technology Development Center (MTDC). He has been the principal investigator (PI) and co-PI for numerous government-funded projects in Malaysia as well as international initiatives from organizations like the Qatar Foundation, NSF-USA, and NPST-Saudi Arabia.
He has authored over 400 peer-reviewed journal articles listed in ISI-WoS, conference proceedings, and several books and book chapters. Dr. Amin is also a senior member of IEEE as well as a distinguished lecturer (DL) for the IEEE Electron Devices Society (IEEE-EDS), He actively promotes renewable energy in developing countries across South and Southeast Asia, advocating for affordable renewable energy resources in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7).
