Building Automation SCADA with IIoT
On November 9th, 2025, IEEE NSU Student Branch, in collaboration with IEEE NSU PES SBC and IEEE NSU RAS SBC, hosted a seminar titled “Building Automation SCADA with IIoT” at the North South University campus. The Guest Speaker for this event was Mr. Sheikh Rafat Bin Ali, CEO & Founder of Ulterior Engineering.
The purpose of this event was to give the participants an introduction to Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, and Automation using IIoT systems. Mr. Rafat took the audience on an engaging journey of what BMS is and its significance, and further introduced concepts such as the ASHRAE standards and BACnet protocols to real-world applications involving HVAC, lighting, smoke control, and security systems. He also shed some light on how SCADA enhances automation through data visualization, remote control, and intelligent monitoring. The session became even more lively when Mr. Rafat gave the audience a live demonstration of how the automation system worked. He remotely controlled and monitored his lab’s equipment like showing real-time motor speed control and temperature monitoring from his mobile phone. He demonstrated how user-friendly the interface was by letting the participants control the parameters from his phone’s dashboard. This gave the participants a glimpse into the future of smart buildings and IIoT-driven automation.
The seminar wrapped up with an interactive Q&A session, and the token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Sheikh Rafat Bin Ali by Mr. Mohammad Shafayet Hossain, Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University, and Faculty Co-Advisor of IEEE NSU PES SBC. The day ended with a cheerful group photo, capturing the enthusiasm of everyone present.
