One-day workshop on “Basics of Quantum Computing”
The IEEE Student Branch of the National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NITPY), Karaikal, organized a one-day workshop on “Basics of Quantum Computing” on October 10, 2025. Quantum computing represents a revolutionary leap in computational technology, leveraging the principles of quantum mechanics to solve problems far beyond the capabilities of classical systems. The workshop aimed to introduce the fundamental concepts, principles, and applications of this emerging field to students, researchers, and enthusiasts.
The inaugural session commenced at 10:00 AM in the presence of Dr. Makarand Madhao Ghangrekar, Director, NIT Puducherry; Dr. Aniruddha Khane, Associate Dean (Research and Consultancy); Mr. M.P. Karthikeyan, Assistant Professor, Department of CS & IT, Faculty of Applied Computing, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Bangalore, and keynote speaker of the workshop; and Dr. A. Venkadesan, IEEE Branch Counsellor and Convenor of the workshop.
Dr. Venkadesan extended a warm welcome to the gathering, followed by Mr. Vignesh Raj R, Research Scholar and Vice-Chairman, IEEE SB, NITPY, who provided an overview of the workshop. The appreciation address was delivered by Dr. Aniruddha Khane, who also introduced the new office bearers of the IEEE Student Branch for the academic year 2026–27. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Makarand Madhao Ghangrekar, who emphasized the growing importance of quantum computing in shaping future technologies. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. M. Vishvanath, Research Scholar and Treasurer, IEEE SB, NITPY.
The technical sessions were conducted in two parts. Session I was delivered by Mr. M.P. Karthikeyan on “Quantum Computing Demystified: Concepts, Principles, and Applications.” Session II was jointly handled by Dr. B. Surendiran, Professor, Department of CSE, NITPY, and Mr. B. Akoramurthy, Research Scholar, Department of CSE, NITPY, on “Quantum Development Frameworks.”
The workshop received an overwhelming response, with around 40 registered participants from various institutions across India. The event concluded with a valedictory session, during which participation certificates were distributed by Mr. M.P. Karthikeyan, the keynote speaker.
The one-day workshop served as a valuable platform for participants to gain fundamental insights into the world of quantum computing — a single step toward a transformative technological journey.
