15 Years of Meninas.Comp & Girls.Comp Day
On October 21, 2025, the University of Brasília (UnB) hosted Girls.Comp Day, a flagship event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Meninas.Comp Project. As the first initiative in Brazil dedicated to encouraging female participation in Computing and STEM, this milestone event brought together students from 9 public schools across the Federal District to explore careers in Computer Science and Engineering.

Target Audience: K-12 female students and the broader academic community.

Scale: Participation from 9 different schools, demonstrating the project’s deep integration with basic education.

Location: CIC/EST Building, Darcy Ribeiro Campus (UnB).

Activities: A full day (08:30 – 17:00) of hands-on workshops in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Programming, complemented by laboratory tours and inspirational talks led by prominent women in technology.
The Meninas.Comp project (Computing is Also a Girl’s Thing!) has evolved from a local extension project into a national benchmark for gender diversity in technology:

The "Pipeline" Effect: Over 100 undergraduate students have acted as mentors. Several current Master’s students at UnB began their journey as high schoolers within this project, proving its effectiveness in fostering long-term academic and professional persistence.

Scientific Contribution: The project has produced over 20 peer-reviewed papers presented at prestigious international forums, including IEEE, ACM, WIT, and LAWCC/CLEI.

Institutional Support: Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society, the "Grupo Mulheres do Brasil," and the Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Federal District.
