2. Opening Remarks

  • Welcome: Vamsi Krishna Addepalli opened the meeting, and Sajal Mittal welcomed the ExeCom members to the first Execom meeting of 2026, acknowledging the successful interactions during the IEEE Bangalore Section AGM.

  • Purpose: The primary agenda was to present the vision and strategy for the year 2026 and gather feedback from the team.

3. CEDA Overview

  • Introduction to CEDA: Sajal Mittal clarified that CEDA (Council on Electronic Design Automation) is a technical council formed in 2005, not a society. It focuses on EDA, CAD tools, and semiconductor design automation.

  • Member Societies: CEDA comprises seven parent societies, including CAS, Computer Society, Packaging, Electron Devices, Antennas & Propagation, and Solid-State Circuits.

  • Benefits: Membership is free for anyone who is already a member of IEEE. Benefits include access to newsletters, sponsored events, and flagship conferences.

4. Vision and Strategy 2026

Vision: To establish the CEDA Bangalore Chapter as a leader globally and attain the #1 position by the end of 2026.

Strategic Targets:

  • Membership Growth: Target to increase membership from ~3,000 to 9,000 members (approx. 3x growth).

  • Student Branches: Increase the number of student branches from 13 to 25.

  • Professional Members: Aim to double professional membership (currently 550).

  • Distinguished Lecturer (DL): Goal to have at least one CEDA DL from the Bangalore Section.

Key Focus Areas (Horizontals):

  1. Student Branches: Expand to Tier-2 & Tier-3 cities and new districts (Mysore, Mangalore, North Karnataka).

  2. Industry-Specific Events: Leverage industry connections to organize relevant programs and bridge the industry-academia gap.

  3. Membership Drive: Actively promote CEDA membership benefits to colleagues and students.

5. Execution Model & Initiatives

Double Engine Event Model:

  • Engine 1 (ExCom Driven): Each ExCom member is requested to organize at least one meaningful event during the year.

  • Engine 2 (Student Branch Driven): Aim for at least one event driven by student branches, supported by a mentorship loop.

ExCom-Counselor Loop:

  • Each student branch will be mapped to one ExCom member who will serve as a mentor/point of contact to guide them and ensure one or more events for this year.

Proposed Event Diversity:

  • Technical Certification Programs (approx. 4 months duration).

  • Industry-Specific Problem Solving (Hackathons/Challenges).

  • Startup Meetups and Investor Connects (Bridging startups with VCs/Industry).

  • Workshops (RTL design, Verification, Layout).

  • Social Impact Events.

  • Global Collaboration (Joint events with international chapters).

6. Timeline

  • Immediate (Jan End): Submit event proposals.

  • Q1: Focus on planning, executing initial events, signing MOUs (e.g., with VIT), and organizing one sponsored program before March.

  • Q2: Execute flagship events (like SWEAT) and revamp strategy if needed.

  • Q3: Focus on regional expansion and outreach events outside Bangalore.

7. Discussion & Q&A

Student Membership Strategy:

  • Discussion: Dr. Mohammed Ziaullah suggested that since student fees are lower, obtaining student support is key to climbing the chapter rankings. He mentioned a proposal for a 50% discount on student memberships to drive numbers from the college or university.

  • Action: Jalaja S emphasized the need to create awareness about the free membership benefit.

Volunteering Opportunities:

  • Opportunity: Lakshmanan Balasubramanian announced that the Design Automation Conference (DAC) is looking for volunteers for the technical program committee and review team.

  • Action: Members interested in volunteering were asked to reach out to Lakshmanan.

8. Adjournment

The Chair thanked the members for their patience and emphasized working as a unified team without stress ("Be Happy").
