Abstract : Unauthorized Signals Passed at Danger (SPADs) are common accident precursors in the Portuguese railways. Critical events in the past highlight the need to assess the risk and safety impacts of SPADs. This lecture discusses a risk and safety analysis of SPADs, using qualitative and quantitative methods. It will also assess impacts and explore micro-scale and macro-scale perspectives in the performance of railway safety. This research has been conducted within project MS-MRS-RAIL (2024. 07324.IACDC) funded by FCT Portuguese Agency.
