Topic:

The Architecture of Digital Memory

Keynote: How do we prevent a "digital dark age"? From the historic vaults of The Permanent in Vancouver,  Andrea Mills explores the vital mission of Internet Archive Canada. This talk bridges the gap between physical landmarks and digital preservation, highlighting why our technological heritage is at risk. For IEEE Vancouver members, it’s a call to action: learn how to identify and help save the artifacts of Canadian Internet innovation before they vanish into a "404 Not Found" future.

Biography: Ms. Andrea Mills is a prominent digital preservation leader and the Executive Director of Internet Archive Canada. Since 2006, she has spearheaded efforts to build a comprehensive Canadian Digital Library, focusing on providing free, equitable access to public and government records. Her work effectively bridges technical digitization with community advocacy, ensuring that cultural heritage and essential government documents remain accessible to future generations through sustainable, open-knowledge frameworks and large-scale partnerships with academic institutions.
