This is a joint meeting of Canadian Society of Senior Engineers and IEEE Life Members Affinity Groups.

This series of presentations has been occurring for more than 20 years and is now being also advertised to the IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG) through vTools and other IEEE LMAG's and IEEE members depending upon the topic.  At the same time the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers (CSSE) is using their national organization to provide information, the subject and speaker to members across Canada.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The meeting will open at 12:30 pm MST (2:30pm Eastern), with the presentation starting at 12:45 (2:45 pm EST).

Please note the meeting originates in Alberta which is in the Mountain Time Zone, so if you are in another province you must account any necessary time shift.

Topic: De-Risking Oil-Gas Technologies to Advance Low Carbon Energies

This talk will present C-FER’s contributions towards utilization of learnings from oil-gas technologies for advancing energy transition and low-carbon energy applications. The talk will include examples of how the industry experience developed for severe service applications, such as thermal oil recovery, can be utilized in the context of carbon integration, hydrogen synergies, artificial intelligence, environmental impact mitigation, and global standardization.

C-FER works in partnership with the global energy industry to advance safety, environmental performance and efficiency – providing analytical, testing and engineering consulting services from two unique world-class facilities in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Speaker: Jarek Nowinka

Bio: Jarek is a Principal Engineer at C-FER Technologies, with 30+ years of experience in the energy industry, primarily involving well integrity and qualification of tubulars and materials for extreme service applications. Recently, Jarek has been focusing on utilization of learnings from heavy oil industry in support of energy transition from hydrocarbons to renewable resources. Jarek represents Canada in ISO Technical Committee 67, which coordinates international standards for petroleum and low-carbon energy applications. He is the primary author of ISO 12835 on qualification of casing connections for thermal wells.

Jarek completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary (1990), subsequent to obtaining his MSc and BSc at the Technical University of Poznan in Poland. He is registered as Professional Engineer with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
