JPPL - STEM Outreach Program
JPPL - STEM Outreach
The Jua Powered Portable Library (JPPL) is a solar-powered education and STEM outreach program launched at AIC Mashambani (Hope Academy), Isiolo County, Kenya. The initiative addresses limited access to learning resources and electricity in underserved communities by providing a portable digital and physical library with access to over one million digital books, powered by renewable energy and inclusive assistive technologies for learners with disabilities.
Key activities include upgrading and monitoring a school's solar system, deploying the JPPL digital library, conducting STEM mentorship and hands-on outreach through IEEE TryEngineering and WIE, and engaging community stakeholders to promote sustainability and scale. The program reached 200+ marginalized students, especially girls, through mentorship and career guidance.
JPPL targets students, girls and young women, learners with disabilities, teachers, and underserved school communities, with plans to scale across Isiolo County and North Eastern Kenya as a replicable model for inclusive, solar-powered education.
