- Any group/individual can apply, but at least one member of the group needs to be a member of the IEEE. The competition application form is below. The completed application must be received by the Queen's IEEE Student Branch Counsellor, Dr. Jordan Morelli by 5:00PM, Friday March 20th, 2026. For any questions, please contact Dr. Morelli at morelli@queensu.ca
- A maximum of six groups will be invited to give a presentation on Thursday March 26th starting at 7:00pm. The selection of the six participating groups will be determined based on the information provided in the application form below.
- The three top groups will receive a certificate, and all six groups will earn cash prizes:
- First place: $400,
- Second place: $300,
- Third place: $200,
- Fourth through Sixth place: $50.
Presentations:
- The level of the presentation is to be aimed at the level of the contestants’ peers.
- The work will be judged based on a presentation, with conventional visual aids given to an audience of the speaker’s peers. (All Members of the IEEE and their guests are welcome to attend the presentations.)
- The duration of the talk is not to exceed 15 minutes followed by a 5-minute question period.
Judging:
- The presentations will be judged by a panel of 3 to 5 respected members of the IEEE Community, who will present their findings immediately following the conclusion of the final presentation.
- The judging will be based primarily on presentation, content, and originality of the topic.
- The speakers must present their own work. This can include the work of a team of which the speaker is a member, or a subject the speaker has researched independently.
- The speakers must design the presentation themselves.
- For fairness in comparing students who work on a tight budget, and those with larger budgets, it is necessary for each speaker to clearly state:
- The financial support for the project
- Technology available to the team
- Direct technical support received,
- The role of the team in the accomplishments presented.
