This session provides a practical overview of digital design using CPLDs and FPGAs, focusing on how concepts learned in academics are applied in real-world scenarios. It covers the complete digital design flow, starting from design entry using Verilog or VHDL, followed by simulation, synthesis, and implementation.

The session also explains the differences between CPLDs and FPGAs, helping in understanding their suitable applications. A key highlight is the importance of Placement and Routing, which directly impacts performance, speed, and power efficiency of a design.

In addition, the session introduces ASIC design, including semi-custom and full-custom approaches, giving a broader perspective on hardware design beyond programmable devices.

Overall, it offers a clear and concise understanding of modern digital design practices, making it useful for students interested in FPGA, VLSI, and hardware development.

Mohd Fahad

Biography:

Mohd Fahad is an RTL Designer and FPGA Architect with strong expertise in embedded systems and hardware design. He is currently working as a Lead Embedded Engineer at Eurth Techtronics, contributing to projects in defence, medical, and research domains.

He has hands-on experience in FPGA design, Embedded Linux, and custom processor development. His notable work includes contributing to an ADPLL silicon tape-out under the Chips to Startup (C2S) program, and developing high-speed FPGA IPs such as SLVS-EC receivers for advanced imaging systems. He has also built and booted Linux on custom RISC-V SoCs and designed his own CPU architecture.

Fahad is actively involved in the open-source hardware community and has delivered talks on Open Source Silicon. With strong skills in Verilog, SystemVerilog, embedded platforms, and modern design tools, he brings a practical industry perspective to digital design and FPGA architecture.
