Wireless communication technologies have evolved rapidly from early mobile systems to advanced 5G and emerging 6G networks. Understanding the standardization framework behind these technologies is essential for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals. This work presents an overview of key wireless standards and organizations, focusing on International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and Radio Access Network (RAN) architecture. The study explains the role of IMT in defining global mobile communication requirements, the contribution of 3GPP in developing cellular standards from 3G to 5G, and the importance of RAN in enabling efficient wireless connectivity between user devices and core networks. Additionally, concepts such as spectrum allocation, network evolution, interoperability, and open RAN technologies are discussed to simplify the understanding of modern wireless communication systems. Overall, the work provides a clear and concise introduction to the standards shaping current and future mobile networks.
