IEEE-CIS-University of Jaffna 


The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Student Branch Chapter, University of Jaffna, in collaboration with MDTU, conducted a two-day workshop titled “Enhancing Administrative Effectiveness through Artificial Intelligence for Government Officers” on 02–03 June 2026.

Held at the Computer Laboratories, Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna, the program focused on Generative AI, workplace integration, and productivity automation. Participants explored tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, GPTExcel, NotebookLM, and Gamma AI to streamline administrative workflows and strengthen decision-making.

The sessions combined lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, with strong engagement from government officers driving digital transformation through AI-powered solutions.

Biography:

Prof. M. Siyamalan is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Jaffna. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the United Kingdom, an M.Sc. from France, and a First-Class B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Jaffna. His expertise lies in machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, and medical image analysis. Prof. Siyamalan has supervised postgraduate research, delivered keynote talks, and conducted workshops on AI and emerging technologies, contributing significantly to advancing artificial intelligence in education, healthcare, and governance.

Biography:

Dr. R. Nirthika Rajendran is an academic at the Department of Computer Science, University of Jaffna. She completed her Ph.D. in 2022, focusing on deep learning-based diabetic retinopathy image grading, and previously graduated with a First-Class B.Sc. in Computer Science. Her expertise lies in deep learning, AI tools, and digital literacy for administrative efficiency. She has served as a resource person and guest speaker for numerous workshops and training programs, including sessions on AI for government officers, digital literacy, and productivity enhancement. Dr. Nirthika actively contributes to curriculum development and professional training, helping bridge advanced AI research with practical applications in governance and education.
