Waste Disposal Projects in Alberta
This is a joint meeting of Canadian Society of Senior Engineers and IEEE Life Members Affinity Groups.
This series of presentations has been occurring for more than 20 years and is now being also advertised to the IEEE Northern Canada Section (NCS) Life Members Affinity Group (LMAG) through vTools and other IEEE LMAG's and IEEE members depending upon the topic. At the same time the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers (CSSE) is using their national organization to provide information, the subject and speaker to members across Canada.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The meeting will open at 12:30 pm MDT (2:30pm Eastern), with the presentation starting at 12:45 (2:45 pm EDT).
Please note the meeting originates in Alberta which is in the Mountain Time Zone, so if you are in another province you must account any necessary time shift.

Speaker: Mr Samir Hamid, Waste Manager. Varme Energy and CEO, Waste Gurus
Summary: The presentation will focus mostly on Varme Energy’s mass incineration technology but will also discuss emerging projects - Canecotred, tire disposal, and Magnetik solutions, medical waste. Topics covered in relation to these projects include the process, market opportunities, carbon capture and the challenges in attracting investment for these projects.
Bio: Samir Hamid is the founder of Waste Gurus, a clean-tech consultant. He is a director on the Alberta Plastics Recycling Association and sits on numerous committees of Waste to Resource Ontario. Internationally, he has wide network of contacts across North America, Asia and the Middle East. He bridges the gap between complex regulatory issues and the economic execution of large scale waste-to-energy and industrial recycling ventures like Varme Energy and Canecotred.
