Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB Simulink for Communication Networks & Electronic Circuit Design
Report on “Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB Simulink for Communication Networks & Electronic Circuit Design”
The workshop “Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB Simulink for Communication Networks & Electronic Circuit Design”, organized by the IEEE IEM EDS Student Chapter in collaboration with the IEEE IEM ComSoc Student Chapter, was a highly engaging technical event aimed at introducing students to the fundamentals and practical applications of MATLAB Simulink in communication engineering and electronic circuit design.
The event witnessed the participation of approximately 60 students, reflecting strong interest in simulation-based engineering tools and modern design methodologies. The workshop was designed to provide participants with both conceptual understanding and practical exposure to MATLAB Simulink, one of the most widely used platforms for modeling, simulation, and analysis of engineering systems.
During the session, participants were introduced to MATLAB and Simulink fundamentals, followed by demonstrations on communication network simulation and electronic circuit design. Key topics such as signal generation, modulation techniques, communication system modeling, electronic circuit simulation, and performance analysis were covered through interactive examples and practical demonstrations.
A major highlight of the workshop was the hands-on implementation segment, where participants actively developed and analyzed simulation models under expert guidance. The activities enabled students to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world engineering applications while strengthening their analytical and problem-solving skills.
Overall, the workshop provided a valuable learning experience and successfully promoted technical excellence, innovation, and practical learning. The event concluded successfully, leaving participants motivated to further explore MATLAB Simulink and its applications in communication systems and electronic circuit design.

Agenda
The event commenced with the registration and onboarding of participants in the online session, followed by a welcome address introducing the objectives of the workshop and the speaker. The technical session began with an introduction to MATLAB and Simulink, covering their features, applications, and significance in engineering design and simulation. Participants were then guided through the fundamentals of communication network modeling, including signal generation, modulation, transmission, and analysis using Simulink. Subsequently, the session focused on electronic circuit design and simulation, where attendees learned to model and analyze electronic circuits using MATLAB Simulink tools. Practical demonstrations and guided exercises enabled participants to understand system behavior, evaluate performance, and gain hands-on experience in simulation-based design. Interactive discussions and doubt-clearing sessions were conducted throughout the workshop to encourage active participation and deeper understanding of the concepts presented. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, workshop activity briefing, with a small activity for better understanding, and a vote of thanks.
