IEEE CEDA Distinguished Talk — “Physical Design: From Past to Future”
The IEEE CEDA Student Branch Chapter, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), in association with the IEEE CEDA Bangalore Chapter, is organizing an IEEE CEDA Distinguished Talk titled “Physical Design: From Past to Future” on 3 July 2026.
This insightful session will explore the evolution of physical design in microelectronics, from early manual layout techniques used in microprocessor design to modern automated layout generation methodologies. The talk will highlight the role of physical design automation in optimizing transistor layouts, reducing power consumption, and advancing semiconductor technology.

Physical Design: From Past to Future
Biography:
Prof. Ricardo Reis is a renowned researcher in the areas of physical design automation, design methodologies, fault-tolerant systems, and microelectronics education. He has contributed extensively through more than 750 publications, including books, journals, and conference proceedings. He has held several leadership positions in IEEE and international organizations and has received prestigious recognitions including the ACM/ISPD Lifetime Achievement Award and IEEE CASS John Choma Educational Award.
