Biography:
Dr. M. Belal Hossain is a distinguished researcher, epidemiologist, and public health professional with extensive expertise in infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, epidemiology, disease ecology, and One Health research. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Disease Ecology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA, where his research focuses on understanding the complex interactions among humans, animals, and the environment to improve global health outcomes.
Dr. Hossain possesses a strong multidisciplinary academic background. He earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), which laid the foundation for his career in epidemiological research and public health. He further enhanced his expertise through advanced training in Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London, United Kingdom, before continuing his doctoral studies in the United States. Earlier, he completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), providing him with a unique perspective on veterinary medicine and zoonotic disease research.
Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Hossain dedicated more than seven years to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), where he served as an Assistant Scientist, following earlier appointments as a Research Investigator and Field Research Officer. In these roles, he led the development of research concepts, grant proposals, and study protocols while contributing to nationally and internationally recognized public health research projects.
Throughout his career, Dr. Hossain has made significant contributions to the understanding and control of infectious diseases, including anthrax, avian influenza, tuberculosis, melioidosis, hepatitis E, rotavirus, and other emerging zoonotic diseases. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in internationally renowned journals, with research focusing on disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, epidemiological modeling, risk factor analysis, and evidence-based public health interventions. His expertise also includes epidemiology, microbiology, SAS-based statistical analysis, scientific research methodology, and global health collaboration.
As a proud alumnus of the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), Dr. M. Belal Hossain serves as an inspiration to aspiring researchers and future public health professionals. His remarkable academic journey—from AIUB to Imperial College London and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville—demonstrates a steadfast commitment to scientific excellence, innovation, and improving global public health.
