2026 IEEE Student Challenge at Worldcon - From Fiction to Fact

This competition invites participants to explore how ideas that once appeared only in science fiction can become real technologies, systems, standards, and social innovations through engineering, research, and responsible design.

The theme connects well with Worldcon because science fiction often imagines future possibilities, while IEEE communities help turn technological possibilities into real-world systems.

Participants will use large language models and AI-assisted creative tools to develop an original storyline around a common theme. Participants will leverage generative AI tools and information from the IEEE community. Participants will then transform their storyline into a short video clip, poster, or comic-strip storyboard suitable for public display. Winning entries may be showcased at the IEEE booth during Worldcon / LAcon V 2026 in Anaheim, California.
