Dr Andre Oboler is CEO of the Online Hate Prevention Institute in Australia and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Law School at La Trobe University. A recognised global leader in monitoring and combating online hate, he is currently serving as an expert witness for Australia’s Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion, and as a member of the Australia Government’s Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). His work in the online hate space over the last 20 years includes the first paper on antisemitism in social media where he coined the term antisemitism 2.0 back in 2008, and the world’s first repot into Islamophobia in social media in 2013, serving as a panellist for the United Nation Forum on Minority issues when it focused online hate in 2020, and a range of advisory roles for national governments, technology companies, and civil society organisations. Dr Oboler is a senior leading within IEEE, previously serving as the global chair for public policy, a Vice President of the IEEE Computer Society, and a Vice President of the IEEE Systems Council. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Lancaster University (UK), and degrees in computer science and law from Monash University (Australia).
