Predictive RGBD Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Systems for Robotics and Intelligent Vehicles
Tues. 18th August 2026, 1pm, Hybrid

Systems Council of the IEEE UK & Ireland is delighted to announce another Distinguished
lecture as a hybrid event. 3D perception—the ability to understand depth and spatial relationships is essential to robotics and intelligent vehicles. This presentation reviews established 3D sensing and computer vision methods before introducing deep learningbased predictive 3D sensing using monocular cameras. It explains key principles, common architectures, and training-data requirements, with SLAM and autonomous driving as practical examples. The tutorial also examines accuracy, system compatibility, and integration with existing cameras and sensor platforms, highlighting how advanced 3D vision can be achieved without additional hardware modifications.

This event will be of particular interest to researchers, engineers, industry leaders, educators, and students working in robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, autonomous systems, and intelligent vehicles. It will provide valuable insights into emerging 3D perception and predictive SLAM technologies, their practical applications, and their
