IEEE VTS NANJING CHAPTER DISTINGUISHED LECTURE by PROF. K.T. Chau
Abstract: Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is advancing at unprecedented speed, yet the world’s charging networks are struggling to keep pace. The landscape is further complicated by divergent charging standards, each shaping how drivers plug in. Meanwhile, wireless charging signals a future in which vehicles replenish energy without cables or manual intervention. The future of EVs will hinge not only on adoption rates but also on whether infrastructure and standards can converge. In this lecture, an overview of EV charging technologies, infrastructure, and standards will be presented, followed by an examination of emerging wireless‑charging research activities and prospective directions.
Biography: Prof. K.T. Chau currently serves as Chair Professor of Electrical Energy Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), and Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE). He is elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (FIEEE) for Contributions to Energy Systems for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles. Professor Chau has published 9 books, 10 book chapters and over 450 refereed journal papers. He has been honored the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) Distinguished Lecturer and Distinguished Speaker.
