Modern wireless systems require compact antennas with multiband, MIMO, and frequency-reconfigurable capabilities. This talk presents our recent work on SIW-based reconfigurable multiband, MIMO, and multiband-MIMO antennas for multifunctional wireless applications.

The proposed SIW cavity-based architectures enable independent reconfiguration of individual frequency bands without significantly affecting the others. Reconfiguration is achieved through radiating-element parameter control or by integrating micropockets within the SIW substrate, which can be filled with dielectric materials of different electromagnetic properties. These approaches provide flexible frequency tuning while maintaining a compact antenna footprint.

The talk will cover the complete design-to-realization workflow, including HFSS/CST-based electromagnetic design, ADS equivalent-circuit modelling, fabrication, and experimental validation using VNA and anechoic-chamber facilities at the CESD RF & Microwave Laboratory, SRM IST. The presented developments demonstrate the potential of SIW technology for compact, flexible, and application-oriented reconfigurable antenna systems.
