  • Section Congress Report: Upal, Parag, Vaishnav, Terry, Stephen, Bansi, Kathy and Kathleen.  
  • EPS Update and Additional Budget Request: Juhitha, Treasurer of EPS chapter will present. Additiona, $1200 budget requested from the section (Budget Report Attached). There might be leftover budget available from the summer school allocation to cover partially.

  • Section Election: Section Chair for 2027 to be elected. Any other chapter needs election? Election Chair - Michelle.   

    • Proposed schedule
      1. September ExCom meeting, introduce the package (please read it) and hold first vote (two-thirds of present and voting).
      2. Newsletter/publish requirement met by publishing the the full amendment text, including the chosen effective-date option, before the second vote in the Newsletter section of the website and to the Big List (or members-only list, at list owner discretion). 
      3. October ExCom meeting is the second vote. The twenty-day minimum spacing is satisfied by the monthly meeting schedule. 
      4. File the amended Bylaws with MGA / Region 6 so the two-year term is formally recorded in the Section's local operating procedures, as the MGA Operations Manual requires.
      5. Confirm the annual election-compliance report reflects the changeover. In non-election years the report states that officers are serving recorded two-year terms. Non-compliant election reporting places the Section rebate at risk, and we really do not want that.

  • Request from AI x Energy Summit: Chris Mi is inviting the IEEE San Diego Section to serve as a community sponsor for the 2027 AI x Energy Summit, which will take place in San Diego on March 29-30, 2027. The organizers are requesting assistance in promoting the event to IEEE San Diego members through meeting announcements and other communication channels.

    The summit focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, power electronics, and energy systems, with a special emphasis on AI data center power supply systems enabled by solid-state transformers. Additional topics include machine learning, thermal management, energy storage, onsite generation, microgrids, and energy management.

    The event will feature distinguished speakers from industry, academia, national laboratories, government organizations, and members of the National Academy of Engineering. The program includes plenary sessions, keynotes, expert panels, poster sessions, networking opportunities, a banquet, awards ceremony, and post-conference activities.

    As a benefit to IEEE San Diego members, attendees can receive a discounted registration rate of $450 using the code "IEEE", compared to the standard registration fee of $625 (a savings of $175).

    The organizers are seeking confirmation of IEEE San Diego Section's interest in serving as a community sponsor and encourage sharing the event with members, students, collaborators, and other interested stakeholders.

  • Annual Banquet 2027: Tentative date/time - 11:00am, Sat 16 Jan 2027 at USD. 
  • CS Career Catalyst Networking Reception: Mon 16 Nov 2026 at MMSD (Venue Tentative). 
  • Funding request for iGET 2026 organized by IEEE Southern Area Council. Gora Datta, the Orange County Section Chair and Chair of the IEEE Southern California Council, recently reached out to me regarding the upcoming 2026 IEEE Global Emerging Technologies Conference (iGET) (https://ieee-iget.org/) and asked whether the IEEE San Diego Section would consider providing financial support for the conference. For context, IEEE iGET 2026 will be held October 21–25, 2026, in Irvine, CA, in a hybrid format. The conference focuses broadly on emerging technologies, including AI/ML, Generative AI and agentic computing, cloud computing and networking, cybersecurity, digital health, digital twins, IoT/edge computing, quantum computing, and sustainable technologies. It also includes technical papers, workshops, tutorials, a student poster competition, and volunteer opportunities.
